After a couple of years break, while we concentrated on our fundraising, we are now re-establishing our dance group.
With a professional dance tutor and choreographer our dance group will concentrate on the christian music genre.
Christian dance lessons in Newport
For dance we are teaching the following styles:
We’ve opted to restart our christian dance group before opening our performing arts centre at the request of our church youth. There is also limited capacity for non-members of our church to join.
Currently, we are only taking on intermediate level dancers or gymnasts who want to be involved in competitive dance. We shall start beginners classes once we have opened the centre.
If you want to be involved with our christian dance classes you should be aged between 8 and 14 with experience of dance or gymnastics. You need to be able to commit to 2 x 3 hour sessions a week at a minimum. These will be on:
Wednesday evenings between 5.00pm and 8.00pm
Saturday mornings between 10.00am and 1.00pm
Cost will be £25.00 per week plus additional costs for competitions. Dance classes will be held at halls in central Newport, South Wales until we have our own building opened.
Benefits of christian dance
Our christian contemporary christian dance lessons aim to help develop young people in a range of life skills as well as dance. Through dance we will develop young people’s self-esteem, confidence and team-working skills.
As well as personal character development our lessons will also highlight the importance of food and diet on fitness and well being.
Christian development will come from the music that is chosen and the studying of lyrics as we choreograph dances and movements.
Future of our dance programme
Once our performing arts centre is opened we will be opening up our dance lessons to all levels. We will be providing beginner and novice classes for those children who want to start dance in a positive and christian environment. This means that we expect everyone (including parents) to be part of a positive and encouraging environment, free from bad language and threatening attitudes or bullying.
We will also be hosting performance of both our own dance groups and also be inviting other dance schools to visit and perform.
Our aim is also to take part in inter-school dance competitions and demonstration shows.
Philosophy of our dance groups
Our aim is to provide a positive and supportive environment based on sound, traditional bible teachings. We are open to anyone to join, however, they must respect our beliefs and operate within those beliefs while on premises or during class times.
Ultimately, we do aim to be a competitive dance studio and as such we expect our members to work hard and have a degree of commitment to dance. Modern dance requires levels of dedication that you often see in competitive gymnastics. Self-motivation is essential if you want to be part of or competitive team rather than a member of our recreational or leisure dance classes.
We have an important motto that we believe in – Always inspired, never compared.
This means when we watch others and take part in competitions we are inspired by other dancers but we never compare our own skills or levels with others. Jesus does not compare one person to another and neither should we. Comparison is a negative train of thought that leads us downwards. When we watch others we aim to be inspired and encouraged by their skills. We also congratulate and encourage others in the work and skills they have developed.

As with all our christian youth groups, our core bible verse which our dance group members operate on is Colossians 3:23 – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for humans.
All we can ask as a dance crew is for you to do your best and work hard.
